I have received more sad news this morning that George Watson, formerly of Wallsend and Portland Ltd BC has sadly passed away.
George played for the county over many many years – starting in 1968 in the Alsop Cup, where George made 41 appearances for the county in this competition. George then moved in to the first team where he represented the county in both Muras and Middleton Cups and notched up 139 appearances in total and was part of the successful side that lifted the Middleton Cup the last time we won it (1988 – photo shown below). George also won all 4 senior (not age related) county titles – singles, pairs, triples and fours.
I have no further details at this stage.
Our condolences and thoughts are very much with George’s family and friends at this difficult time.
