The Balcomb Trophy 2026. The format has changed and is now 9 players – see below.
Format of Play
- Players will participate in the following disciplines:
- Pairs (three bowls per player, 18 ends
- Triples (two bowls per player, 18 ends)
- Fours (two bowls per player, 15 ends)
- During Regional finals, the county side may be changed ahead of the start of each individual match/round.
- Each match will be limited to a time limit of two hours 30 minutes (including trial ends).
- All ends must be played in all disciplines unless a discipline is ‘timed-out’.
- In the event of a ‘dead end’ the jack will be re-spotted on the T (or as near as possible to the T in line with the current Laws of the Sport).
Scoring
- Preliminary Round
- Winner to be determined by ‘Match Aggregate’ score.
- Regional Finals
- Per discipline – 2 pts for a win; 1 pt for a draw
- Match Aggregate – 2 pts for a win; 1 pt for a draw
- Total of 8 points per match.
- The county that tops the group at the conclusion of the group stages will qualify for the National Bowls Finals.
- This will be determined by (in order):
- Overall points
- Overall shots difference
- Overall shots scored
- National Finals
- Winner to be determined by ‘Match Aggregate’ score.
Fixtures:
- Preliminary round: Sunday May 17th against Lancashire at Wigton, Cumbria, 11AM start – Players to arrive for 10:30 am
- Regional finals: Will take place on Saturday 30th May, Cumbria (3 games)
