Men’s League & Cup Changes

Back to news

Just to advise Ponteland BC have withdrawn from all Men’s leagues and cups for the 2021 season. The leagues are Knight (Division 3), Clegg Cup (Division 2) and Nines. The cups are Edwardson, Challenge and Jubilee.

In the leagues – Knight Division 3 – this was a 9 league division originally and due to this withdrawal it is now a 8 team league. Therefore there are no more Byes in the league, and the games that clubs had to arrange no longer applies.

In the Clegg Cup – the division now has a bye in the league (replacing Ponteland BC).

In the Nines – this has been re-drawn, as there were 11 teams and 22 weeks in the season. Due to this change the league is now 10 teams, and this reduces the games by 4 less games, as 2 byes removed and 2 Ponteland BC fixtures. In the league now there are no byes and consists of 18 fixtures but there is only 16 weeks in the season. The two additional fixtures (where in previous version there were 6, where Fridays from 23/07 to 30/08 season to be used); these two fixtures are now scheduled in the first and second week of the season (21st & 28th May) – also please note if this date is not suitable these games can be arranged mutually between clubs but must be played by 31st August.

In the Edwardson Cup – Astley Park were due to play Ponteland in Round 1. Astley Park will now receive a walk-over and now face Cramlington away in round 2.

In the Challenge Cup –  Ponteland BC were playing at Alnwick BC, and there withdrawal simply means there are now 5 clubs in that section.

Finally in the Jubilee Cup I am looking at a couple of options and will advise you in due course of these. Ponteland BC were in stage 2, which makes things slightly easier.
