BE Nationals Day 16

Friday brought the Senior Pairs events at the Bowls England National Finals. First up was the Women’s senior pairs were in action, with our qualifier’s of Benfield’s Pat Browne with Gosforth’s Sheila Storey taking on Norfolk in round one.

Pat and Sheila were up against Margaret Hunt & Debra Wright (Norfolk) and Pat & Sheila recorded a good win 18 – 11. Next up in round 2 was a pair from Lincolnshire (Kirsty Cox & Caroline Cullum) and unfortunately we went down 24 – 15.

In the Men’s senior pairs we are represented by Gosforth’s Peter Duffy & Chris Palmer. In their opening game they faced one of our Northern Counties neighbours in Lancashire (Chris Yates & Steve Brady) and we won a very close contest 15 – 14. In the 2nd round our lads took on John Hunt & Roger Cooper (Leicestershire) and recorded a good win 21 – 9.

Next up (tomorrow – 9:30am) is a clash with Durham in the quarter-finals, where we will take on Alan Lawton & Maurice Dunlop.

Also tomorrow will see the start of the Mixed Fours – where our representatives of Mattea Ross, Sheila Storey, Mike Bennett and Dane Ross (substitute for Stephen Harvey) – and we will take on Tina Broderick (Northamptonshire) at 9:30am in the last 32.
