Stella Logan v Yorkshire

Back to news

Well Friday saw the final match in the Stella Logan Inter County League. Played at Gosforth against Yorkshire in brilliant sunshine to start with then at 1430hrs it decided
enough sunshine the green needed watering. The heavens opened and for about
fifteen minutes play was held up.  Returning to the green Northumberland ladies did
not let the rain affect their game, on the contrary it was Yorkshire that struggled to
get back into it. Terri Heron’s rink at 10 ends had a commanding lead of 14 shots to 4. building on that  to finish 22 v 9.
Anne Marie Murray with her rink after being 4 shots to 14 down at 10 ends took a grip
of their game and finished 20 v 15 up.  Not to be outdone Karen Harvey’s rink who struggled before the rain, came out fighting and at 10 ends took the lead 9 shots to 8.
From then on in winning 5 of the 8 ends left clinched a win 19 v 11. With 3 rinks up and
one  rink down , but still in double figures,  Northumberland secured a  magnificent win
against Yorkshire 74 v 55.
Yorkshire still winning the League as Cumbria beat Durham who were in the running.
Next season the Northumberland Team, of which there were a lot of new players will build on their experience of the league and this great final match success.
Very well done.
