Spectators were treated to some exciting and excellent play in our 4 bowl Champion of Champions Competition, at Collingwood BC on Sunday 11th June – the sun shining for most of the day was a bonus!

The day began with a prelim round between V.Symons (WR) v C. Dawson (WM). Victoria took the first two ends but Christine fought back so after 4 ends the score was 3-3. Then Victoria took 3 points on the 6th end and 4 points on the 9th end to take a 12-5 lead. Both players continued to play well with Victoria winning 21-12 after 19 ends.

Round 1 saw V.Symons on the rink again v F. Charlton (M). This time Fiona took an early lead but Victoria pulled it back to 3-3 after 4 ends. Victoria then took the next 3 ends to lead 8-3. Fiona managed to take a 4 on end 11 to make the score 12-9 to Victoria. However Victoria maintained her lead to win the game 21-9 and secured her place in the semi final.

Round 1 Thelma Napier (FH) v Shelagh Carter (HX) this was a long and exciting game with both ladies playing really well. It was 3-3 after 5 ends but then Thelma took control and was leading 11-4 on the 11th end. Shelagh pulled it back to 9-11 on end 13, only for Thelma to pull ahead again. They were certainly keeping Fabian very busy with measuring! After 24 ends Thelma held the lead 18-17 and then she took the final two ends to win 21-17 to secure her place in the semi final.

Round 1 Pat Browne (BD) v A. Dunton (P) This was a closely fought match keeping everyone guessing as to who would take the win. Pat was leading 6-1 after 4 ends. Amy fought back to 6-6 after 8 ends, only for Pat to push ahead again and lead the game 16-11 after 16 ends. Amy then took the next 4 ends to lead 19-16. Pat kept her concentration and won the next 3 ends taking the score to 19-19 after 23 ends. But Amy was relentless and took the last 2 ends to win her place in the semi final with a score of 21-19.

Round 1 M.Ross (G) v M. Allen (R)

This was yet another closely fought game. Marie took a lead of 7-2 after 5 ends only for Mattea to fight it back to 6-7 over the following 2 ends. Winning ends was alternating and after 12 ends the score was even at 9-9. Both ladies played some tremendous shots but it was Marie who was leading 17-11 on end 17. Mattea secured a 3 and a 2 in quick succession but Marie managed a 1 and then a 3 on the last end to secure her place in the semi final winning 21-16 overall.

We then had two very exciting semi finals to watch:

V. Symons v T. Napier

V Symons WR v T Napier FH

Victoria took an early lead with the score standing at 11-4 after 8 ends. Thelma then started to fight back bringing the score to 8-11 after end 11. Victoria scored on the following 7 ends to lead 20-8. Thelma took the following 3 ends with 2 x1 and a 4 to bring the score to 14-20. Thelma was holding shot on the last end but then Victoria played a superb shot with her last bowl to win the game 21-14.

A.Dunton v M. Allen

A Dunton P v M Allen R

Amy was leading 6-5 after the first 7 ends. She then took a commanding lead over the next 7 ends to lead 16-5 after 14 ends. Both ladies were playing some super shots, so accurate and so close to the jack, and Marie started to make a come back. She dominated the game for 7 ends to take the lead after end 24 with the score standing at 20-19. You could have heard a pin drop on the next end as both ladies were fighting hard to win. Amy secured a 2 on end 25 to win the game 21-20 and we could all breath again!!

So our two finalists are Victoria Symons and Amy Dunton and they will fight it out on Saturday 24th June at Ponteland BC starting at 10am. Will Victoria be able to retain her title from last year or will Amy take the trophy!! Come along and spectate and I am sure you won’t be disappointed.
