President’s Day Delight

President’s Day 2021

On Sunday 4th July at Alnwick Bowling Club, Women’s President Vivienne Shepherd held the annual charity fund raiser event a.k.a. President’s Day.
After looking at the forecast all week, we were expecting thunderstorms and heavy showers, with many of us dressing for the occasion, however we were delighted to be greeted with clear blue skies and a very warm day!

Viv kicked us off by welcoming everyone to the green and introducing her event to raisemoney for the Great North Children’s Hospital, cancer unit and everyone a very enjoyable day.

In a sea of orange, the bowlers (and some construction workers) took the green and they began their jumble – with 2 games in the morning, followed by lunch and a taste of some of the delicious home made cakes and a further game in the afternoon.

Throughout the day there were lots of various events taking place to help raise further funds for the charity. These included a very generous raffle, a domino card for a bottle of whiskey, guess the weight of the cake, a cake sale and an extra special hamper. Viv also had a special prize for the ‘best dressed’  which of course had to be M McNally (AM) with her UV tutu, fishnet gloves, and earrings – you looked amazing, well done! (See if you can spot her in the photo above.)

Although our Secretary M Maddison (WM) and the green team won overall by a 5 shot margin, I think the real winner is the GNCH Cancer Unit who will be receiving a very generous charitable donation.

So far (with some final money yet to be counted) the President has raised over £712 well done everyone, this is truly remarkable.

Lastly, on a personal note – I (Rachel Cartwright) would like to say a huge thank you to the County President for selecting this charity that means so much to me, and to each and everyone of you who have contributed to by baking, buying or donating towards today’s event (and of course those who organized it!) – I was feeling really overwhelmed by the end of today – so thank you.
