New Double Rinks Champs!

Our last county competition of the season took place at Gosforth WA today – the Double Rinks Final.
Whitley and Monkseaton got their revenge today against Benfield winning the game 38-15!

Thank goodness the sun was shining and the rinks were running great!
Thank you to the spectators and officials who turned out to cheer their teams on.
A big thank you to Gosforth for accommodating this competition at short notice and providing fabulous refreshments at the end of the game. Thanks to Allison Storey who brought over the sandwiches that had been ordered by Ponteland, they were delicious.

Thank you to Jason for umpiring and we certainly kept him busy! Much appreciated.

Rink 2
B.Ware (WM) 24 v R. Henderson (BD) 5

Benfield took an early lead scoring 2×1 on the first two ends but Whitley & Monkseaton soon got in their stride and took the following 6 ends with 4×1, & 2×2 to take the lead 8-2 after 8 ends. Benfield kept fighting back and there were some very close ends in this game. Whitley & Monkseaton scored 4 on end 11 to extend their lead to 13-3. Benfield replied with a 2 on end 12 to cut the deficit to 5-13. Whitley & Monkseaton then took a 4,3&4 to finish the game on end 15 with a lead of 24-5 as Benfield conceded.

Rink 4
C.Dawson (WM) 14 v V.Errington (BD) 10

It was Benfield who took an early lead again scoring 2×2 on the first two ends to lead 4-0. Then Whitley & Monkseaton replied scoring 3×1, 2 on the following 4 ends to take the lead 5-4. Scores were level at 5-5 after 7 ends. There were some very close ends in this game as well, but Whitley & Monkseaton managed to score 1,3&2 on the next 3 ends, to take their lead to 11-5. Both teams scored 1 on the following 2 ends and then Benfield scored 3 on end 13 to cut their deficit to 9-12. Whitley & Monkseaton scored 2×1 to increase their lead to 14-9. Benfield scored 1 on end 16 to take the score to 10-14. Benfield then agreed to concede the match overall, so Whitley & Monkseaton are our 2023 champions.

A super game ladies played in a great spirit and a very nice end to this season’s competitions!
