Challenge Cup Starts

Back to news

The Men’s Northumberland Challenge Cup starts tomorrow – Saturday 7th August.

This year there are 5 sections, with originally 6 teams in each – as Morpeth and Ashington came in, one replacing Ponteland in Section D and the other making the final section at Rothbury to make it 6 clubs.

The 5 sections are being hosted by Benfield, Gosforth Garden Village, North Shields West End, Alnwick and Rothbury. I would like to personally thank these clubs for hosting tomorrow and I hope to see you at some point in the day.

The holders Forest Hall start their defence at Alnwick BC, where they will take on Alnwick, Cramlington, Rockcliffe and Morpeth.

Unfortunately 2 clubs have withdrawn – these are New Delaval Knights from Section A at Benfield and Gosforth from Section D at Alnwick.

The winners of each section will qualify for the final of the 21st August – plus there will be one place for the best runner up from across the 5 sections as well.

Finally I wish all the players / clubs the very best of luck – and hopefully the weather holds for everyone (although it wouldn’t be the Challenge Cup without the rain!!).
