BE Nationals Day 17

Back to news

Saturday (Day 17) brought hope of our last chances of silverware at the Bowls England National Finals – with the Men’s Seniors Pairs and Mixed Fours.

As per previous post our Men’s Senior Pairs of Peter Duffy & Chris Palmer got through two games on Friday and faced a quarter-final this morning against our neighbours from Durham in Alan Lawton & Maurice Dunlop. Unfortunately it was not to be, after being behind early on with the score being 11 – 4 down, we got back to 11 – 9 but Durham pulled away over the last few ends and despite our best efforts Peter & Chris went down 20 – 12. Great effort by both of them – well done.

On the Mixed Fours – firstly the game was delayed (this was known on Friday), as Tina Broderick (Northamptonshire) was still in the Women’s Senior Pairs, which was scheduled at the same time. The game was played after Broderick lost in the Women’s Senior Pairs and unfortunately we lost to Tina Broderick, Sian Hughes-Jones, Paul Broderick, Connor Cinato 19 – 8.

Unfortunately despite one more day left in the Bowls England National Finals, the results today end our interest in a playing capacity. Well done to everyone that has represented Northumberland at the finals.
