Two Bowl Singles Round 2 Preview

Back to news

The 2nd round of the Men’s Two Bowl Singles is scheduled for tomorrow evening – May 17th.  This is also coincides with the further easing of restrictions, where spectators are NOW allowed to go along.

Possibly the highlight of the round sees not only an all Gosforth clash but between current holder Simon Richardson and England Junior International Josh Minto (Josh has turned 25 now so is not eligible now for Junior International Team). There is a total of 3 games at the West Avenue club – the other 2 games are Peter Duffy facing past champion Benfield’s Jonny Morgan, and James McKenna taking on Seaton Sluice’s Iain Dickinson.

Other stand out games sees former runner up Portland’s Gren Richardson take on Benfield’s Jonty King; and at St. Georges 4 Bowls Singles runner up Alan Stewart plays former champion Gosforth’s Michael Bennett. There were due to be another two games at the Morpeth club, but one has been played early and was a great result for the home player Dan Bennett where he defeated past winner Wooler’s Brian Davidson. Dan overcome an 11-10 deficit to take the last 5 ends to record a great victory 16 – 11. The other game at St. Georges sees Michael Barrass take on Cramlington’s Tony Fantozzi.

Since posting this earlier – Alan Stewart / Michael Bennett tie was played today (Sunday 16th), and Michael recorded a great away win, despite losing the first two ends Michael only allowed Alan to score on only another 2 ends and ran out a 19 – 6 winner.

There are now 11 ties to be played on Monday evening. I wish everyone the best of the luck tomorrow – and again I appreciate if results are given timeously.  Thank you in advance.
