Triples Round 2

Back to news

The Men’s triples continued tonight with 16 second round ties. The holders Gosforth’s Chris Yeomans had a good away win at St. Georges, defeating Gary Myerscough 18 – 9.

Portland BC had a good night this evening with two good victories at home, firstly John Bartlett beat Backworth Welfare’s Steve Welsh 22 – 8, and fellow club colleague Gren Richardson defeated Cramlington’s John Sutherland 19 – 17. However the third Portland triple of Simon Taws went down at home to Benfield’s Jonty King 15 – 8.  Gosforth’s Steve Harvey faced another away game, after his trip to Haltwhistle last week, this time Steve was at Percy BC and against David Leslie and it was certainly a game of two halves! Steve at 9 ends was trailing 13 – 3, and Steve’s triple recovered from this position and won the game 21 – 14.

In other games Cramlington’s Kevin Miles had a good win over Benfield’s Jim Taylor. St. Georges’ Neil Aitchison defeated Rothbury’s Rob Donkin at home, fellow club mate Phil Harvey beat Tony Fantozzi at Cramlington (22 – 8), and for Tony this hasn’t been a good 24 hours as he lost in the pairs to Fabian Scott at Collingwood last night. Unfortunately for Fabian he could not continue his winning form, as they went down to Mark Heron at Rothbury (although Graeme Donkin is skipping). Tommy McMullen from Forth had a tight tussle against Fabian Scott’s clubmate Keith Armstrong, and McMullen scored on 4 of the last 5 ends to win 15 – 12. Another game down the coast was another close contest between Tim Burbridge (Seaton Sluice) and Gosforth’s Mick McGreevy, McGreevy scored on 3 of the last 4 ends to win the tie 16 – 15. And finally New Delaval Knight’s Aaron Robson (R Warnes-Hall) won a close contest at Walker Park, defeating Terry Hunter 15 – 11.

The next round takes place next Friday – 18th June. I would like to thank all players in reporting results promptly – all in by 9:04!

One final thing, and some of you are probably aware of this – next Friday there is a Football game on – between England and Scotland (kick off at 8pm).
