Singles Down to 4

Back to news

Tonight the Men’s 4 Wood Singles quarter finals were played and one solitary former champion remains in contention, and also there was no place like home this evening, with all four home players taking victories.

Mick McGreevy

The former champion left in the field is Gosforth’s Mick McGreevy, winner in 2016 and McGreevy tonight comfortably beat a former runner up in Health & Security’s Rory Adamson 21 – 8. McGreevy will now face Rockcliffe Rollers’ Darryl Illingworth in the semi-final. Illingworth beat St. Georges’s Michael Barrass at home this evening 21 – 18, but this does not tell half the story, as Barrass started well scoring a 4 then a 3 on the first 2 ends, but then found himself 8 – 7 behind. But Barrass hit back with a full house of 4, to take the lead 11 – 8 and scored a 2 and a 3 to go further in front 16 – 9. However over the last 12 ends Barrass only collected two more singles, and Illingworth scored 3 singles from 18 all, to take the tie 21 – 18.

In another game down the coast, this time at Seaton Sluice Ian Dickinson continued his great form, this time disposing of another former runner up in Gosforth’s Steve Harvey. Dickinson took the tie 19 – 4, where Steve conceded at that point.

The final game of the night was a close contest between Benfield’s Jonty King and St. Georges’ Neil Aitchison, with King taking the tie 21 – 18.

Therefore the semi-finals will be Illingworth v McGreevy and Dickinson v King. These ties will be part of the semi-final schedule – 23 to 26 July 2021 at neutral greens.
