Tonight the Men’s last 16 of the triples was played, and no fewer than 6 former champions, including the holders were still in the reckoning.
There were some impressive away wins tonight, starting with Alan Proctor triple (entry is Ian Webb) recorded a decisive 20 -5 victory over Graeme Donkin at Rothbury (entry M Heron). Another away victory was at Benfield where Portland’s Gren Richardson won comfortably 22 – 5 against Jonny Morgan. The final away victory tonight saw Gosforth’s Peter Duffy win at Cramlington against Kevin Miles 17 – 12.
In other games tonight it was a mixed evening for the Harvey’s – firstly St. Georges’ Phil skipped his triple to a good win over Portland’s John Bartlett, but Steve went down to Phil’s club colleague Neil Aitchison at St. Georges. Steve’s game was similar to the last round at Percy and were 13 – 1 down at 7 ends, Steve clawed the deficit back to 13 – 12 but Neil Aitchison trio held their lead and won the game 16 – 14. Neil will now play his club colleague Phil in next weeks quarter final.
The final games were from Gosforth, which saw the holders Chris Yeomans defeat Benfield’s Jonty King, and Jimmy Curtis beat New Delaval’s Aaron Robson. And the final game was former champion (1993) Mick McGreevy play yesterday and Mick won 22 – 9 against Forth’s Tom McMullen.
The quarter finals are scheduled for next Friday.
