Tonight brought the 1st round of the Men’s Pairs – in total there was only play in 10 of the 14 ties scheduled, as 2 were played early and the other 2 were walk-overs.
Past winners (2004) Steve Harvey defeated Gosforth club mate Peter Duffy. Steve (and Michael Bennett) now face an away trip to Collingwood’s Fabian Scott, who played early and defeated Wooler’s Brian Davidson. Also at Gosforth tonight saw father & son duo from New Delaval Knights Stephen & Aaron Robson edged out home players Mark Dickinson & George Bennett by 1 shot (15 – 14).
In other games across the county tonight there were good home wins for Rockcliffe’s Daryl Illingworth defeating Forest Hall’s Barry Sultman, Seaton Sluice’s Tim Burbridge beat another Forest Hall pair in Chris Coan, Rothbury’s Graeme Donkin (named entry – Mark Heron) won at Willington Quay 14 – 12 over Anthony Errington and Benfield’s Alan Pomfrey had a great away win at Percy, getting the better of Brian Rodgerson. However there was better news for Rodgerson’s Percy colleague David Leslie who defeated Mark Stanners from Gosforth Garden Village.
The 2nd round is scheduled for next Thursday – 24th June.
