Simon Richardson

Gosforth’s Simon Richardson stayed on course for a unique treble, in his quest to win the Men’s 2 Bowl Singles Title on 3 consecutive occasions. Richardson got the better of his name sake – Gren Richardson at Portland BC in tonight’s 1/4 final, with the score being 17 – 6. Simon will now face club colleague Dan Targar in the semi final.

Dan secured a great away win at the same time ending the good run of Cramlington’s Tony Fantozzi in a very tight game at Cramlington BC. The game swung both ways but looked like heading the home players way, where Tony led 13 – 9 with only 4 ends to play, however Targar was not to be denied and levelled at 14 all playing the 21st end, and Targar secured the decisive shot to take the tie 15 – 14.

In the bottom half of the draw there was another impressive win for New Delaval Knight’s Graeme Robinson, where Graeme defeated Gosforth’s Mark Dickinson 15 – 9 at home.

Robinson will now face St. Georges’ BC Gary Myerscough who recorded a great away win over Benfield’s Stan Lant on the very last end. The game was tight throughout as at 10 ends it was 6 all, and 7 all at 12 ends. However Myerscough edged ahead and looked on course to take the last semi final spot, as Gary led 11 – 7. But Lant had other ideas and scored 4 of the next 5 ends to take the tie to the 21st end, with the scores being 13 a piece. In this final end Gary secured the vital shot and took the tie 14 – 13, and the last semi final place.

The semi-finals will take place in July.
