Women’s Triples Competition

The Women’s Triples Competition completed its first round on Thursday evening with 3 very decisive wins for:

 

  • M. Green (NB) 28 v L. Hansom (AK) 8
  • S. Carter (HX) 27 v M. Sutherland (PE) 3
  • K. Proctor (BD) 20 v J. Miller (WM) 7

 

The remaining 5 draws were much closer games with some exciting finishes:

  • S.Alden (AM) 14 v T.Napier (FH) 11

After 9 ends Amble had a lead of 10-0. By the 13th end Forest Hall had cut their deficit to 5-11. Amble then took the following 3 ends to extend their lead to 14-5. Forest Hall pushed on and despite taking a 5 on end 17 and 1 on end 18 it was not enough to secure a win.

 

  • A. Stevenson (GC) 19 v Y.Boyd (BP) 15

Gosforth Coxlodge took an early lead and by end 5 they were 4-3 up. They extended this lead to 7-3 after 7 ends. Then Bedlington Dr Pitt got in their stride and took the following 5 ends to take a lead of 12-9. Gosforth Coxlodge fought it back to 11-12 after end 13. They won ends 15&16 to retake the lead of 17-14 and then managed to seal the win on end 18 taking a 2 to win overall 21-15.

 

  • C. Brodie (P) 11 v J. Gledhill (NB) 15

After 5 ends Percy had a lead of 5-2 and after 8 ends they had extended their lead to 8-4. Newbiggin managed to take the following 2 ends cutting their deficit to 7-8. On end 12 they were tied at 9-9 and again on the 16th end they were tied at 11-11. But it was Newbiggin who held their nerve to win the last 2 ends with a 3&1 to win 15-11.

 

  • V.Errington (BD) 17 v A.Wilson (M) 16

Benfield were leading 5-2 after 5 ends. Morpeth kept fighting back and after 10 ends were just down 7-8. Morpeth then took a 5 on end 11 which meant they were now in front 12-8. Further extending their lead to 14-9 after 13 ends. Benfield were not going down without a fight and had cut their deficit to 14-15 after 16 ends. Morpeth secured 1 on end 17 to lead 16-14 but it was Benfield who took the win on the last end with a 3 to secure the game 17-16!

 

  • B. Hamilton (NB) 21 v S. London (C) 15

By the 5th end the score was 5-5. By the 10th end both teams were level again on 10-10. Then Newbiggin took the next 3 ends to lead 15-10. Collingwood replied on the next end with a 3 cutting their deficit to 13-15. Newbiggin replied immediately taking a 3 back on the next end, and they managed to keep in front winning with a 2 on end 18 to finish 21-15!

 

We move into Round 2 next week with Newbiggin fielding 3 teams and Benfield with 2 teams in the last 8! Can the teams from Gosforth Coxlodge, Hexham Elvaston or Amble take any of them out!!
