BNWS semi finals part 2 today certainly showed what talent we have in women’s bowling in Northumberland. Some fantastic competitive games kept everyone on the edge of their seats!!
Morning session:
2 Bowl Singles:
- N.Scott (ND) 15 v S.Mac Donald (HX) 16
Susan was leading 6-1 after 5 ends. By the 10th end Naomi had cut the deficit to 6-7. By end 14 Naomi had taken a lead of 10-8. Susan replied taking the next 2 ends to retake the lead of 11-10. This game was closely contested and by end 19 they were level at 13-13. After 21 ends the players were level again at 15-15. So they had to play an extra end and Susan won the game 16-15.
- R.Robinson (WR) 14 v R.Cartwright (BD) 15
This was another closely contested game. Ruby was leading 4-0 after 2 ends but by end 7 they were level at 5-5. Ruby won the next 2 ends to lead 8-5. Rachel replied taking the following 3 ends to lead 9-8. After 15 ends they were level again at 11-11 and after 17 ends the score was 12-12. They were level again after 20 ends 14-14, so it was all to play for on the last end and it was Rachel who held her nerve to win 15-14.
So our finalists are:

Senior Fours – 1 game
- P.Browne (BD) 16 v J.Harrison (M) 15
Benfield took an early lead of 6-2 after 3 ends. Morpeth then took the next 2 ends with 2×2 to cut their deficit to 4-6. Benfield immediately replied with a 2 on the next end to lead 8-4. Benfield increased their lead to 12-7 after 9 ends. Then Morpeth got in their stride and took the following 6 ends with 3& 5×1 to take a lead of 15-12. Benfield found their previous form and took the next 3 ends with 1 & 2 to level the game 15-15. It was all down to the last end and Benfield scored 1 to win the game 16-15.

Pairs Semi Finals:
- K.Proctor (BD) 13 v K.Milner (M) 15
Benfield started strong leading 6-0 after 3 ends. Morpeth immediately replied with a 3 to cut their deficit to 3-6. By end 10 the players were level on 9-9. There were some incredible tight heads in this game but by end 13 Morpeth were leading 12-10. Benfield score 1 on the next end to cut their deficit to 11-12 but Morpeth replied with 3×1 to extend their lead to 15-11 by end 17. Benfield knew they needed 4 to level the game but with some great play from both sides they only managed to score 2, and Morpeth won the game 15-13.
- H.Smith (GC) 20 v M.James (G) 13
Gosforth WA took an early lead but by end 3 they were level at 2-2. Gosforth Coxlodge scored a 4 on end 7 to take a lead of 9-3. They followed this with a 6 on end 9 to further extend their lead to 15-4. Gosforth took the next 2 ends to cut their deficit to 6-15. By end 15 Gosforth Coxlodge were leading 20-7. Despite Gosforth WA scoring a 3,1&2 on the last 3 ends it was Gosforth Coxlodge who won the game 20-13.

Fours semi finals:
We saw two very tight games this afternoon which kept the spectators entertained!
- J.Gledhill (NB) 16 v K.Proctor (BD) 19
Newbiggin were leading 6-1 after 5 ends. Then Benfield came back fighting taking a 2&4 on the following 2 ends to take a lead of 7-6. Newbiggin quickly answered with a 2&5 to retake the lead of 13-7 after 9 ends. By end 13 the teams were level on 13-13 and by end 16 they were back level again on 16-16. Benfield dug deep and scored a 1&2 on the last 2 ends to win the game 19-16.
- B.Ware (WM) 22 v J.Robson (LL) 14
Linton Lions started strong leading 5-1 after 3 ends. By end 8 the teams were level at 7-7. Linton Lions scored a 2 on the following end but W&M replied with a 4 on end 10 to lead 11-9. Linton Lions levelled the score again to 11-11 on end 11. By end 13 Linton Lions were back in the lead 14-12. But W&M dug deep and successfully took the next 5 ends with 2×1, 2×2 &4 to win the game 22-14.

Overall a fantastic weekend of bowling played in great spirit! Despite getting very wet at times the standard of play was not affected and I’m sure all the spectators enjoyed watching these games!
