Women’s Rinks Final 2

Back to news

Sunday 30th May saw the sun shining as the semi-finalists took to Benfield bowling green to take another step towards representing Northumberland in the Bowls England National Finals.

After defeating the reigning champions, J Allen (HX) continued her winning streak after taking on Alnwick’s R Brown. After 5 ends, Allen was comfortably ahead with a 7 – 1 lead, but Brown wasn’t going down without a fight scoring 5 shots over the next 4 ends whilst only conceding 1.

Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be, and Allen ultimately won by a narrow margin of 2 shots (14 – 12).

In the other tie, we saw V Symons (WR) take on S Storey (G). Storey got off to a flying start with a score of 7 – 2 after only 4 ends played.

However, Symons then proceeded to score on 6 of the following 8 ends taking the score to 9 – 16. With only 3 ends to play Storey had her work cut out for – but is never one for giving up, the next 2 ends, Storey scored a further 2 shots leaving 5 needed for the draw. She was lying 4 shots with 2 bowls to play, unfortunately Storey was unable to draw in for a 5th meaning Symons forfeited her last bowl to concede 4 shots – but win the game (15-16)

Symons and Allen will now play on finals weekend to determine who will represent Northumberland at the National Finals.

Our Triples semi-final is at Forest Hall on Sunday 6th June, 11am.
