Women’s Player Performance Development Day

Back to news

What a start to BNWS new season. Friday 26th April saw 73 women converged at West Denton Indoor Bowls Club yesterday to take part in a Players Performance Development Day. Yes County outdoors going indoors. The magnificent 8 rink arena was necessary because of our unpredictable weather.

3 very different sessions took place. David Bolt, North Easts very own kicked off the day with his view of “being part of a team “. David who himself has won many National, County titles and played Internationally certainly gave the women a great insight into “teamwork”. Notebooks and pencils at the ready for taking down of tips and hints his presentation and Q&A session was well received.

After lunch and the obligatory Raffle the women’s attention turned to a group session on a Coaching module prepared by Scottish International performance coach Chris. McGready. Due to work commitments Chris was unable to be with us so Rachel Cartwright stepped up. Alongside Rachel who’s presentation held all of the women’s attention throughout, her brother Jason and fellow umpire Ann Marie Murray gave practical and theoretical advice on Measuring and Marking. The women over a very intense afternoon were given a lot of food for thought to help up their game and understand the intricacies of game management. I can certainly say there was not one woman left West Denton feeling that they hadn’t learnt something and ready for a well earned rest. Their enjoyment of a full on day was evident as they left West Denton buzzing and looking forward to a successful Team Northumberland season.

The proof of yesterday’s efforts will be evident on the Green, well done BNW for embracing the new look of our Spring Meeting. To David Bolt, Rachel Cartwright, Jason Proctor, Ann Marie Murray and not forgetting Chris.McGready sincere thanks for your time and energy.
