Women’s Fours Commence

Due to some withdrawals in this competition, we only had 4 draws competing in the prelim round, which was completed last night.

 

K.Proctor (BD) 24 v C.Brodie (P) 5
  • The Benfield ladies were in fighting form taking a decisive win in this game.

 

J. Gledhill (NB) 16 v C. Graham Scott (WM) 11
  • After 5 ends Whitley & Monkseaton were leading 3-2. Then Newbiggin took a 2&3 on the next 2 ends to take a lead of 7-2. By end 10 they had extended their lead to 12-4. Whitley & Monkseaton pushed on and by end 15 they had cut their deficit to 10-14. However it was Newbiggin who scored on the final 2 ends of the game to secure their route into the next round by winning 16-11.

 

E.Timoney (M) 22 v S.Carter (HX) 15
  • After the first 5 ends Hexham Elvaston had a lead of 5-4. After 10 ends they were still in the lead with 10-9. Then Morpeth pushed on hard taking 2×3 on ends 11&12, followed by 1 on end 13 to take a lead of 16-10. Hexham Elvaston replied and took a 1&4 on ends 14&15 to cut their deficit to 15-16. However Morpeth were now in their stride and took the last 3 ends with 2,3&1 to secure their win finishing 22-15.

 

A.Stevenson (GC) 14 v M.Green (NB) 15
  • Gosforth Coxlodge took an early lead on 5-2 after 5 ends. Newbiggin fought back hard and after 10 ends had cut their deficit to 6-7. They then took a 2 on the following end to take the lead 8-7. Gosforth Coxlodge immediately answered with a 2 on the next end to retake the lead 9-8. Newbiggin fought on and took the following 3 ends with 2×2&3 to lead 15-9. Gosforth Coxlodge dug deep and despite winning the last 3 ends with 2×2&1, they fell short of trying to force an extra end. Newbiggin coming out on top with a win of 15-14 in this closely fought game!

 

So onwards and upwards, there are certainly some challenging games coming up in Round 1 next week!
