Two Bowl Singles Round 1

Back to news

Monday evening brought the first of the Men’s County Competitions with the Two Bowls Singles getting underway. There were meant to be 11 ties, but one tie was called off due to the weather – this will be played on Wednesday.

Defending champion Gosforth’s Simon Richardson recorded a good home win over former Champion Alnwick’s George Batey. Richardson will now face club colleague Josh Minto next week, where Josh overcome past runner up Portland’s Simon Taws 17-10.

In another battle of the past winners Benfield’s Jonny Morgan defeated Gosforth’s Steve Pallas 14-9; overall it was a good night for the Benfield club, as it saw Ian Webb and Stan Lant both recorded good victories again over Gosforth players, and Alan Pomfrey recording an away win against past runner up Ray Topping of Alnwick.

There were also good wins for Cramlington’s Keith Miller over club colleague Paul Timney, and other notable victories saw Dan Targar (G), Graham Sivell (AP), Mark Dickinson (G) progress, although Mark needed an extra end to defeat club colleague Chris Brown (G), and Tony Fantozzi (CN) who played on Friday evening.

Round Two is scheduled for next Monday – 17th May.
