Men’s Singles Serves Up Thrills and Standout Form!

The chase for the prestigious County Singles title shifted back to the top half of the draw for Round 3, and the players absolutely delivered on the greens. With positions in the later rounds at stake, we witnessed brilliant displays of drawing bowls, clear-cut victories, and a single-shot thriller that had everyone watching on tenterhooks.

While the top half took center stage this week, the bottom half of the draw will return to action next week to complete this captivating round of fixtures.

 

The Grandstand Finish: Rowland Edges a Single-Shot Epic

The match of the night undoubtedly belonged to M. Rowland (G) and P. Brimer (BD). In a superb, high-stakes battle of tactics and weight control, neither player could comfortably pull away. Every single shot had to be thoroughly earned. Tied late in the game, Rowland dug incredibly deep on the final end to uncover the match-winning bowl, securing a breathtaking 21–20 victory in an absolute classic.

 

In Superb Rhythm

While some ties went right down to the wire, several competitors found their lines immediately, putting together fluent, dominant performances to progress smoothly.

Gemmill and Gibson Set the Standard: A. Gemmill (BD) put on a marvelous exhibition of drawing bowls, allowing K. Pratt (GC) no room to settle in a 21–1 victory. R. Gibson (GC) was in similarly spectacular touch, navigating a tough fixture against J. Morgan (ST) to record a strong 21–5 win.

Harvey and Houghton Advance: It was a great evening for Gosforth’s heavyweights. P. Harvey (G) ran out a 21–7 winner against clubmate P. Timney (G), while B. Houghton (G) showed excellent consistency to defeat J. Boyd (AM) 21–6.

Owen and McGready Impress: G. Owen (CN) traveled home highly satisfied after an excellent 21–7 victory over W. Ray (G), and C. McGready (ST) put together a beautifully measured game to defeat G. Miller (F) 21–10.

 

Key Results From Around the Greens

Gosforth Momentum: Joining the winners’ circle for the Gosforth club were M. Cooper (G), who played beautifully to see off a strong challenge from C. Coan (FH) 21–14; S. Richardson (G), who put on a highly accurate display to defeat R. Barclay (AM) 21–9; and S. Miller (G), who advanced with an excellent 21–13 win against G. Milroy (M).

Myerscough and Mills March On: G. Myerscough (ST) carried fine form onto the green to overcome A. Johnson (BD) 21–10, while S. Mills (WK) showed great resolve to hold off a spirited N. Aitchison (ST) 21–16.

King and Hayden Victorious: J. King (BD) booked his place in the next round with a hard-earned 21–14 victory over N. Donnachie (R), and M. Hayden (ST) looked in fine touch throughout his tie to defeat T. Heron (GC) 21–9.

With B. Davidson (WR) and A. Oliver (RY) safely advancing straight through into the next round via walkovers, the top half of the draw is narrowing down to some incredibly formidable pairings.
