Men’s Singles Quarter-Finals: Champions Tested in Thrilling Monday Night Showdown

By The Green-Side Insider

The atmosphere at the green was electric this Monday evening as the Men’s Singles Quarter-Finals reached their dramatic conclusion. With the stakes at their peak and the format demanding a race to 21, we witnessed a series of battles where experience and nerves were tested to the very last wood.

Quarter-Final Highlights: A Night of High Drama

The quest for the title took some exhilarating turns as challengers and seasoned champions clashed in a series of tightly contested affairs.

Myerscough’s Powerhouse Start: In a standout performance, G. Myerscough (ST) stamped his authority on the match early against 2021 champion J. King (BD). Myerscough dominated the opening exchanges, sprinting to an impressive 16-6 advantage. While King showed the heart of a former title-holder by fighting back to narrow the gap to 20-16 late in the game, Myerscough held his nerve to cross the finish line 21-16.

Richardson’s Gritty Response: The contest between A. Gemmill (BD) and S. Richardson (G) was a true pendulum of momentum. Gemmill initially established a strong position, leading 17-12 as the match entered its closing phase. However, 2023 champion Richardson showcased excellent focus to claw his way back, capitalizing on a crucial three-shot end to swing the momentum in his favor at 19-17. Richardson maintained that intensity to secure his spot in the semi-finals with a 21-17 victory.

Jameson Edges Out the Champion: In an all-club clash, L. Jameson (G) demonstrated tremendous composure to overcome the 2024 champion J. Minto (G). In a back-and-forth battle that saw the lead change hands repeatedly—including a brilliant four-shot end from Minto early on—Jameson stayed locked in. After the score reached 16-16 in the latter stages, Jameson ultimately found the decisive ends to claim a hard-fought 21-18 result.

Rogan Overcomes in Tight Battle: M. Rogan (HW) and N. Armstrong (G) provided a tense, high-quality encounter. Neither player was able to pull away early, and the score remained locked in a tight race through the middle stages. With Rogan holding a 17-15 lead, he pushed on to 19-15. Although Armstrong rallied to 19-17, Rogan found the final scoring ends to close out the match 21-17 and secure his place in the final four.
