Round 1 today provided spectators with some very exciting games to watch and some nail biting finishes!
S. Carter (HX) 21 v E. Timoney (M) 20
Shelagh took an early lead and was 7-1 up after 5 ends. Then Erica got in her stride taking the next 7 ends to take a lead of 13-7.
After 15 ends Erica was still leading 15-9. Shelagh took the next 4 ends and after 21 ends they were level on 16-16. After 23 ends they were still level on 18-18.
Erica went back in front taking the following 2 ends to lead 20-18. Shelagh replied taking the last 2 ends to secure the win 21-20! What an exciting finish!! 🙌🙌
K. Milner (WM) 8 v M. Angove (WM) 21
The Whitley & Monkseaton ladies had to battle it out again! It was a close start with Marysia just leading 6-5 after 6 ends.
Then Marysia put the pressure on taking the next 6 ends to lead 16-5. Karen fought back taking a 3 on the following end to cut her deficit to 8-16. Marysia finished the game taking 5×1 on the last 5 ends to secure her win of 21-8.
R. Cartwright (BD) 21 v A. Dunton 20
Rachel took out last year’s champion in a nail biting finish tonight! After 5 ends these ladies were level 3-3. After 10 ends Rachel had pushed in front to lead 9-5. After 15 ends they were level again on 11-11. Amy managed to push hard and by 18 ends she had a lead of 16-12. Rachel took the following 3 ends to cut her deficit to 15-16. Amy answered with a 4 to go back in front 20-15. But it was Rachel who fought back taking the last 3 ends with 3×2 to win the game 21-20!!!
I’m shattered just writing about it so I’m sure the ladies playing were exhausted 🫣
S. Atkinson (RY) 17 v F. Charlton (FH) 21
Another close game at the start, after 6 ends they were level on 4-4. After 10 ends Fiona had pushed on to take a lead of 10-7. After 10 ends they were level again at 10-10. Then Su took a 4 to lead 14-10 but then she got stuck on 14 for 4 ends as Fiona pushed hard to level the game again 14-14. Su answered with a 3 to take a lead of 17-14 but then stalled on 17 as Fiona took the last 6 ends to win 21-17!
M. Mohon (AM) 14 v S. London (C) 21
Sandra made a strong start leading 7-0 after 3 ends. By the 13th end she had extended her lead to 18-6. Maddie took the following 3 ends to cut her deficit to 13-18. Sandra pushed on hard taking 2 out of the last 3 ends to secure her win of 21-14.
S. Alden (AM) 15 v K. Sultman (FH) 21
Sandy took an early lead of 6-3 after 5 ends. By the 10th end Kacee had got in her stride and had taken a lead of 10-6. By the 15th end Sandy was back in front leading 14-11. Kacee took the following 3 ends to retake the lead 16-14. Sandy replied taking the next end to cut her deficit to 15-16. Then Kacee dug deep and took the last 3 ends to secure her win of 21-15.
M. Blackett (RC) 11 v C. Brodie (P) 21
Carol started strong and was leading 6-0 after 5 ends. By the 10th end she had extended her lead to 9-3. Marie immediately answered taking a 4 on the following end but Carol then took the next 4 ends to extend her lead to 15-7. By the 20th end Carol was still in the lead 19-10. She managed to keep the momentum going to the finish with a final score of 21-11.
A. Stevenson (GC) has a further walkover into Round 2.
So the last 8 fight for a place in the semi finals next week!
