Semi-finals Day 2 (Women’s)

Well I am pleased to say that the rain kept away for day 2 of our Women’s semi finals and we just had the wind to contend with!!
Games that continued from yesterday:

4 Bowl Singles:

B.Ware (WM) 19 v N.Scott (NDK) 21

I started today with a lead of 5-4 and extended this to 8-4 after 7 ends. After 14 ends I still had a lead of 14-6. Naomi scored a 3 on end 17 to bring it to 10- 15. After end 23 I still retained the lead at 19-12 and then I know what it feels like when you hit a brick wall, as Naomi stormed ahead to take the next 4 ends to level the score at 19-19. Naomi scored 2×1 on the next two ends to win the game on the 29th end 21-19! Moral of the story never give up!

2 Bowl Singles:
K.Proctor (BD) 9 v J.Weir (FH) 13
Jess started today with a 8-5 lead extending it to 9-5 after 12 ends. Both players scored 2×1 over the next 4 ends bringing the score to 11-7 to Jess. Jess took the following two ends with 1 point on each and Kayleigh scored 2 on end 19 but it was too late as Jess was declared the winner with 13-9.

2 Bowl Singles:
S.MacDonald (HX) 12 v M.Ross (G) 15
Mattea started the day leading 8-4 after 9 ends. Susan was the first to score with 2×1 so was 6-8 down after 11 ends. Both players kept fighting hard and after the 17th end Mattea’s lead was 12-10. On the next 3 ends Susan scored a 2 and Mattea scored a 1 & 2 to finish the game at 15-12.

Fours semi finals:
K.Proctor (BD) 25 v V.Symons (WR) 13
Wooler took an early lead scoring 2×1 on the first 2 ends. Benfield answered on the next 2ends with 2×1 so it was level again at 2-2 after 4 ends. Benfield took a game changing 6 on end 6 to take the lead of 8-3. Wooler replied with a 2 on the next end but then Benfield dominated the following 5 ends with 1, 2×2, 3 & 4 to lead 20-5 after 12 ends. Even though Wooler scored a 5 on end 16 it was too little too late as Benfield finished the game on 25-13. Congratulations to Benfield on reaching the final and also securing their place at the National Finals in the fours πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

 

Fours semi final:
S.Storey (G) 10 v A.Eagle(sub T.Napier) (FH) 13
Forest Hall took an early lead in this game leading 2-0 after 2 ends. Gosforth fought back and levelled the game to 3-3 after 6 ends. The score was level again at 5-5 in this tight game after 9 ends. Forest Hall got in their stride and won the following 3 ends with 3 & 2×1 to lead 10-5 after end 12. Both teams dug deep and tried to keep their nerve as Forest Hall retained their lead of 11-10 after the 17th end. Forest Hall scored 2 on the lady end to win the game 13-10.
Congratulations to Forest Hall in reaching the final and also securing their place st the National Finals in the fours πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

 

Pairs semi final:
A.Eagle (sub J.Weir FH) 16 v B.Ware (WM) 11
Forest Hall were leading 5-2 after 5 ends. Whitley and Monkseaton then scored 2×1 to make it 4-5 after 7 ends. Forest Hall then took a 2 & 3 on the next 2 ends to take their lead to 10-4. Whitley & Monkseaton fought back with a 4 on end 13 so they were just 10-11 down. Forest Hall replied with 3×1 on the next 3 ends with Jess making a fantastic shot on end 16 to save them from being 5 down! Whitley and Monkseaton scored 1 on the next end but Forest Hall replied with 2 on end 18 to finish the game as winners on 16-11. Congratulations to Forest Hall on reaching the final and securing their place in the National Finals πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

 

Pairs semi final:
S.Storey (G) 17 v M. Peart (WR) 13
This was a very close game and there was lots of cheering from the spectators! Gosforth were leading 5-2 after after 5 ends. Wooler then took a 2 &3 on the next 2 ends to lead 7-5. Gosforth levelled the scores at 7-7 on the 8th end. The teams were level again at 9-9 after 11 ends. Wooler took the lead again with 2×1 to lead 11-9 on end 13. Both teams scored 1 on the following 2ends but then Gosforth took a 5 on end 16 to take the lead again at 15-12. They extended their lead further on end 17 with a 2. Wooler managed to score 1 on end 18 to finish the game 13-17.

A great day of bowling with some spectacular play. Thank you to all the spectators who turned up to cheer everybody on. Thank you to the markers and our umpire Ann Marie who have all done a fantastic job.
Thank you to Whitley and Monkseaton BC members who have helped out over the last couple of days with equipment and providing fabulous refreshments all day it is greatly appreciated .

Tomorrow we have the semi finals of the Senior Fours at 2pm and our last semi final in the 4 bowl singles at 6.30pm. See you there!
