[Updated] [Part 2] Women’s Semi-Finals

Women’s Semi Finals Part 2 took place at Rockcliffe BC today [19th July].

The morning games went ahead as planned and then 2 of the afternoon games, that had been postponed, were rearranged quickly as we decided to start as quickly as possible before the rain really set in!

 


Women’s Pairs:
  • K.Proctor (BD) 18 v S.Stothard (NB) 13

Benfield started really strongly and were leading 15-2 after 7 ends. Then Newbiggin came back and took the next 5 ends to cut their deficit to 16-8. Benfield then only managed another 2 points to Newbiggin’s 5, but it was enough to secure the win of 18-13. Congratulations to Rachel and Kayleigh who have secured their place at Leamington Spa 🎉🎉

 

  • M.Green (NB) 19 v R. Bartram (BD) 11

Newbiggin started strongly and were leading 9-1 after 4 ends. Benfield took the next 3 ends to cut their deficit to 9-4 after 7 ends. Newbiggin pushed hard and were winning 14-8 after 14 ends. They then finished with a strong 4 on the 18th end to win the game 19-11.

Congratulations to Maria and Gillian who have secured their place at Leamington Spa 🎉🎉

 

4 Bowl Champion of Champions: 
  • S.Atkinson (RY) 13 v M.Ross (G) 21

After 5 ends Mattea was leading 6-4. Sue scored 3×3 to cut her deficit to 11-10 after 10 ends. Sue then scored to tie the game 11-11 on the next end. Mattea then got in her stride and took the next 5 ends on the trot to lead 20-11 and despite a 2 from Sue on end 17, Mattea had done enough to win the game 21-13 🎉🎉

 

  • V.Errington (BD) 13 v P.Bell (GC) 21

Both ladies started well and after 4 ends they were tied 3-3. Pam then took the following 4 ends to lead 11-3. Pam kept pushing hard and after 13 ends she had extended her lead to 18-5. Val was not giving up without a fight and after 19 ends she had cut her deficit to 19-13. Pam scored 1 on the last 2 ends to win the game 21-13 🎉🎉

Finalists – to play at Gosforth in the Finals weekend:

  • M.Ross (G) v P.Bell (GC)

 

2 Bowl Singles: 
  • S.Stothard(NB) 16 v R.Cartwright(BD) 11

Sarah started strongly and took a lead of 6-2 after 5 ends. After 10 ends she had extended her lead to 11-4. Rachel came back and after 16 ends had cut her deficit down to 12-10. Sarah took 2×2 on ends 17/18 to lead 16-10. Rachel scored 1 on end 19 before calling it a day with Sarah taking the win of 16-11.

Congratulations to Sarah who has reached the final and secured her place at Leamington Spa 🎉🎉

 

Senior Fours:
  • B.Ware (WM) 11 v J.Harrison (M) 16

After 5 ends W&M were leading 4-2 but then the tables turned when the jack was moved back on a couple of occasions to give Morpeth the lead of 4-13 after 9 ends. W&M then scored on the next 4 ends to cut their deficit to 10-13. They were holding 3 on the next end when Steph came in strongly to take the shot and Morpeth were back in control. They extended their lead despite the pouring rain and eventually won the game 11-16 🎉🎉 Morpeth take their place in the final at Gosforth during our Finals weekend!

The remaining Senior Fours (V Errington (BD) v B Bell (M)) was rescheduled to Sunday 20th July, 10am @ WM.

 


Huge thanks to Rockcliffe BC for being so understanding and cooperative with our rapidly changing arrangements and for hosting this event and providing great refreshments and hot drinks 😊

UPDATE – 20th July.

The last women’s semi final took place this morning in the Senior Fours.

 

  • V.Errington (BD) 14 v B.Bell (M) 18

After 5 ends Morpeth were leading 7-4. After 10 ends they had extended their lead to 15-7. Both teams were pushing hard but Morpeth maintained their lead after 15 ends with a score of 17-12. Despite Benfield scoring on the following 2 ends, Morpeth took the last end to win 18-14 to take their place in the final next weekend!

So we have an all Morpeth Final, and the winner will be going to Leamington Spa, so all to play for and good luck to both teams!
