Pairs Semi-Finalists

BNWS saw our last 8 Women Pairs fighting it out last night (25th June) for a place in our semi finals. We had seen some very close games in the first 2 rounds of this competition, but tonight 3 of the games saw very decisive wins.

 

Marj James (Erica Timoney substituting) and Ruth Carey (G) v Sarah Stothard and Heather Stothard (LL) 

The Gosforth pair took an early lead of 6-0 after 2 ends. Linton Lions fought back and were 4-7 down after 5 ends. Gosforth then took the following 6 ends extending their lead to 18-4. Linton Lions answered by taking the next 4 ends to cut their deficit to 9-18. However Gosforth scored on the last 3 ends to win the game 21-9.

 

 Mary Urwin and Pat Thompson (NW) v Kayleigh Proctor and Rachel Cartwright (BD)

The Benfield pair got off to a flying start taking the first 5 ends and leading 8-0. North Shields West End managed to score 3×2 but it was Benfield who dominated the game to win 24-6.

 

Karen Milner and Fiona Charlton (M) v Victoria Symons and Ruby Robinson (WR)

Morpeth took a dominant lead after 6 ends to score 12-0. Wooler took the next 2 ends to cut their deficit to 3-12. Morpeth scored 3&4 on ends 10&11 to extend their lead to 20-3. Wooler replied scoring 2×2 on the next 2 ends and they scored a 4 on end 16. However Morpeth continued to extend their lead to win the game 22-12.

 

Heather Smith and Ann Stevenson (GC) v Amy Dunton and Tracey Taylor (P)

Gosforth Coxlodge were leading 9-1 after 5 ends. Percy scored a 4 on end 6 to cut the deficit to 5-9. Gosforth Coxlodge answered with a 4&3 to take their lead to 16-5. Percy were fighting back hard and despite them winning the last 6 ends, it was Gosforth Coxlodge who won the game 19-15.


So some new names have made it this year into our semi finals on 13/14th July:

  • K.Proctor (BD) v K.Milner (M)
