The County Pairs championship has reached the business end of the tournament. With most of the Round of 16 now complete, the field is beginning to take shape, though one marquee fixture remains on the calendar to finalize our quarter-final lineup.
Update on the Delayed Round 3 Fixture
The postponed Round 3 fixture between D. Clough (CN) and the defending champions was settled this week. With C. McGready (ST) returning from international success, he rejoined his partner, N. Aitchison (ST), to face Clough. The pair demonstrated their enduring quality with a convincing 29–6 victory. This result advances the defending champions into the Round of 16, where they are now set to face A. Johnson (BD). This highly anticipated matchup is currently being arranged and will be the final Round 4 tie to be played.
Round 4: The Path to the Quarter-Finals
The rest of the Round of 16 provided us with several statement performances and high-quality encounters:
Yeomans in Dominant Form: C. Yeomans (G) produced a commanding display, defeating D. Robson (ST) 24–10.
Myerscough and Bowyer Move On: G. Myerscough (ST) put together a strong performance to overcome P. Brewis (WK) 20–8, while M. Bowyer (ST) displayed consistency to defeat G. Bennett (G) 21–8.
Byles and Heron Advance: In a game that could’ve went either way at the half way stage – B. Byles (G) secured a solid 19–11 victory against D. Shaw (R), whilst M. Heron (RY) edged a competitive game against G. Miller (F), finishing 19–14.
Richardson and Jameson Progress: G. Richardson (AS) navigated a testing match against P. Erskine (SS) to win 15–8. Meanwhile, L. Jameson (G) earns a spot in the final eight following a walkover victory against R. Leeson (M).
