Northern Trophy [Pre-Match Report]

Back to news

Having some players unavailable for selection in the Northern Trophy’s next match against Yorkshire at Hexham Elvaston on Friday 22nd. Selectors reluctantly have had to change some rinks. In the great scheme of things winning rinks were/are intentionally being kept together but best made plans and all that. Next match sees the return of Skip Sheila Storey to the team. Having been out of play since July 2024 due to health reasons Sheila is hoping to be able to sustain 18 ends again. Currently entered in County competitions she feels ready to support the squad and hopefully be back into winning ways.

The squads recent win against Durham at Hexham Elvaston saw a determination and skill set from the players.

The adoption of a pre-match warm up has settled well with them although again Durham found it somewhat humorous (I wonder who suffered aching muscles the next day) certainly not Northumberland. Also the realisation that games are easily lost from 14 ends due to either lack of fluids and energy or seeing the finishing line too soon.

Taking on board glucose and water has proven to sharpen a game especially near the end so Jelly Babies or Glucose tablets at the ready washed down with a drink is key.

The weather forecast for next week is for it to be warmer (hallelujah) so if any supporters fancy a lovely trip to Hexham where you will get a lovely Elvaston welcome please come and support the Northern Trophy team. The Stella Logan’s team win against Yorkshire has set us a target and Yorkshire will be looking for a result so bring it on.
