First and foremost our sincere thanks to Morpeth and their ladies for excellent hospitality throughout the whole game. Also compliments to the green keeper for all the effort to achieving a much better playing surface this season.
The weather was great at the start although our visitors had travelled through pouring rain right up until joining the A1 off the A69.
Northumberland came out of the traps running. Never behind overall in the whole game. Although at 5 ends we only had one rink up, one rink drawn but shot difference was 32 v 29. We maintained the momentum and by 10 ends we were 11 shots clear. Bev Ware’s rink cruising at 16 v 4 up helping us to maintain our shot lead which by the crucial 15th end (where many games are lost) we were sitting at a lead of 32 shots. Have to say our sugar intake of “Rocky road traybake” courtesy of Steph. Donaghy helped to get us over the finishing line even when some of us were caught out in a couple of heavy showers. Sheer dogged determination from Christine Gardners rink nearly gave us 100% rink triumph but the team finished in fine form crossing the line at 18 ends 44 shots up. Overall score 127 v 83
We again go up against Cumbria on Tuesday 16th June in the Inter County O60’s mixed rinks at Portland at 1pm . Also on Saturday 20th June the County ladies face Cumbria in the Johns Trophy at Whitley & Monkseaton BC. We are currently joint top in this Round Robin National competition having a win against Yorkshire last weekend and Cumbria beating Durham so a win on Saturday would be awesome.
Please Bowls Northumberland members come along to these matches and support your County.
