Today we had a total contrast in weather conditions from the earlier rounds played on Monday.
All the teams coped very well in the heat, being kept well hydrated by the Gosforth ladies.
Both semi finals proved to be games of two halves, with both winners pushing hard in the second half!
Semi Finals
A. Forster (BP) 13 v B. Ware (WM) 12W&M started well and they had a lead of 7-2 after 7 ends. Bedlington fought back on the next 2 ends to take the lead 8-7. W&M replied taking the next 3 ends to retake the lead 11-8. The wheels then came off for W&M as Bedlington took a 4&1 to go back in front 13-11. W&M needed a 2 on the last end to force an extra end but only managed 1. So Bedlington deservedly took the win over last year’s winners 13-12.
An excellent result for Bedlington’s first year in this competition 🎉
C. Brodie (P) 11 v S. Carter (HX) 15
Percy started very strongly and was leading 9-4 after 8 ends! Then Percy stalled on 9 for 6 ends as Hexham Elvaston got in their stride taking several 1’s but then adding a 4&3 so after 14 ends they had a determined lead 15-9.
Percy scored a 2 on the last end but it was Hexham Elvaston who were still out in front to take the win 15-11 🎉
Final
A. Forster (BP) 7 v S. Carter (HX) 16Both teams started off well and by end 6 they were level 4-4. Bedlington took the next 2 ends to take a lead of 7-4. We saw some tremendous heads in this game with the shot bowl changing quite dramatically at times! Bedlington stalled on 7 for the last 6 ends as we saw Hexham Elvaston draw in beautifully with 2×1, 2×2 & 2×3 to win the game 16-7 🎉
Congratulations to Marion, Suzanne and Shelagh from Hexham Elvaston on taking the title this year 🎉🎉
Commiserations to Carol, Carol and Ann from Bedlington Dr Pitt, but I’m sure we will be seeing you again next year!
Big thanks to Gosforth for hosting this competition and for providing much needed refreshments all day! The water melon was a great idea to help keep us all hydrated 😉😉
The rinks were in beautiful condition so thanks to all the ground staff.
Spectators were low in numbers today but we appreciated the support of those who did turn up 😊
