Men’s Triples

Back to news

Friday evening brought the next round (Round 3) of the Men’s Triples with 16 ties being played.

Of the 16 ties played tonight, there were 10 away wins, including the holders Morpeth’s Wally Ray winning a close contest against Forest Hall’s R Aitchison, as the scores were 10 all at 10 ends, but Ray took the victory 15 – 13. Ray will have another away game next week, and will face multiple champion in Gosforth’s Chris Yeomans, as Yeomans won another close game at Collingwood against Alan Hall, taking the win 17 – 14.

At Gosforth, Benfield’s Brian Rootham (under P Carr name) recovered from a 9 – 2, and 13 – 7 deficit, and 13 – 16 (at 15 ends), to score 1, 3, 2 to take the tie 19 – 16 over Brian Houghton (under M Bennett). Another comeback tonight was at Percy, where Ashington’s George Richardson overturned 10 – 6 deficit to win 17 – 12 against Steve Graham (name under G Adams). Richardson will be at Gosforth next week to take on his namesake in another Richardson, as Simon Richardson advanced tonight, win a decisive win at Whitley & Monkseaton 21 – 5.  While we are talking about Richardson’s, another Richardson won tonight, and another away victory as well, where Portland’s young Grenville Richardson defeated Rothbury’s Rob Donkin 22 – 14.

The last couple of away wins saw decisive victory for St. Georges Dragons Neil Aitchison at Gosforth, beating Billy Gibson; New Delaval Knights Graham Sivell recorded a good victory at Haltwhistle, beating Martin Rogan 21 – 13; Sivell will travel to Gosforth next week to take on Jimbo Curtis, as Curtis won at Portland tonight, defeating David Pygall 14 – 8, in a close contest. The last away win to report is Walker St. Peters Michael Simmonette winning at Health & Security 16 – 14.

On to the home wins – there were good home wins for Cramlington’s Tony Fantozzi, beating Gosforth’s Mal Cooper 20 – 14; Fantozzi will have home advantage again next week, and take on old foe (not in age!), in ex club mate and now Gosforth’s Paul Timney, as Timney had a good home win over Collingwood’s Steve Welsh. Westerhope continued their good week, after beating Benfield in the Edwardson Cup last night, home favourite Luke Heard recorded a comprehensive home win over Seghill’s Ian Nolan 22 – 7.  Gosforth’s Dillon Slasor beat Morpeth’s Paul Charlton 21 – 6, and Slasor will travel to Seaton Sluice next week, as Seaton Sluice’s Paul Erskine beat St. Georges Dragon Dean Robson 25 – 10, but to note the game’s scoreline at 14 ends was 14 – 10, and saw Sluice score 1, 7 and 3 to wrap up the victory.

I am awaiting one result from Mc McGill (NW) v M Milner (M) – just a reminder results in and no phone calls after 10pm please.
