Men’s Triples 1/4s

Back to news

Friday evening brought the Men’s quarter finals.

At Gosforth BC there were two ties with home favourites Chris Palmer, playing with Dan Targar and Simon Richardson took on 2013 former champions and at the time clubmates in Gosforth, but now play out of St. Georges Dragons – Michael Cymber, Steve Harvey and Phil Harvey. The game started well for the Morpeth club scoring a 5 on the 1st end, but Palmer’s triple levelled the game at 5 ends with the scores being 6 all. This pattern continued with Harvey taking a 10 – 6 lead, but this was wiped out again at 10 ends with the scores level at 10 – 10. However this was  the last time the Gosforth triple would score, as over the next 4 ends Harvey scored 4, 2, 1, and 3 – to lead 20 – 10 at 14 ends, where the game was conceded.

Across the green there was better news for the home triple of Richard Curtis, John Harthen & Dane Ross took on county colleagues in Ashington’s Paul Freeman, Christian Lowes & George Richardson. The home triple started very well, leading 10 – 1 at 5 ends, this sequence continued through to 10 ends with scores being 19 – 2. The game was done and Ross ran out 23 – 4 winners.

The last quarter final played was at Benfield, where former winners in Gosforth’s Josh Minto, Craig Cooper & Chris Yeomans took on Andy Johnson, Stan Lant & Jonny Morgan. The game was tight through the first few ends with the Benfield triple holding a lead of 8 – 7 at 5, and 12 – 10 at 10 ends. On the 15th end Morgan scored a decisive count of 3, which took their lead to 17 – 12. This advantage was held over the last few ends and Morgan’s triple booked their place in the semi-final winning 20 – 13. Morgan will take on Harvey in the semi-final.

The other tie was already conceded earlier in the week, due to two of the Gosforth & Coxlodge players being away on holiday, so therefore Morpeth’s Wally Ray had a bye to the semi-final. Ray will take on Ross in the semi final.
