Monday evening brought the continuation of the Men’s Singles with the bottom half of th
e draw for round 2.
There were 4 former champions in the field tonight, but after tonight’s games only 2 remain. The spotlight was mainly on Gosforth, as they were had 5 scheduled ties – 4 time Champion Richard Train was in search of a 5th and record breaking title but Dickie was derailed by fellow club mate and current under 25 champion Josh Minto 21 – 16. As you all know (or some of you) it was Fathers’ Day yesterday and in the battle of father and sons, both fathers come out on top – firstly Michael Bennett (and former champion) defeated Daniel (this was played a week or so ago) and Steve Miller got the better of son Jack in a close contest. In the other remaining games at the West Avenue club Simon

Josh Minto
Richardson comprehensively beat club mate Steve Ross, Mark Dickinson beat club mate Steve Pallas and after being 11 – 3 adrift, Mark won 21 – 15. The third former champion in action, again at Gosforth was Peter Duffy, who lost to Portland’s Simon Taws.
The last former champion was England International and Gosforth player Chris Yeomans won at St. Georges, against fellow Balcomb player Gary Myerscough. Gary’s club colleague Neil Aitchison had better fortune at Walker St. Peters, where Neil defeated James Henderson, and Neil scored on the last 4 ends to get over the line 21 – 18.
In other games there was a good away win for Cramlington’s Keith Miller at Backworth Welfare, where Keith beat Steve Welsh 21 – 16. There was better news for Steve’s club colleague Roy Stephenson who beat Health & Security’s Stu Williams. 2019 runner up St. Georges’ Alan Stewart got through a tight game at Northumberland Linskill against Neil Middleton. Final result of the night saw another good away win, this time for Seaton Sluice’s Iain Dickinson, who won away at Cramlington’s Tony Fantozzi.
Round 3 is scheduled for next Monday – 28th June.
