Monday evening brought the conclusion of round 2; and 7 former champions remain in the hunt to lift the title again. 4 played last night but the other 3 had walk overs.
The three that played were St. Georges Dragon and 2021 champion Gary Myerscough defeated fellow and new club mate Dean Robson. Wooler’s Brian Davidson recorded a good away win at Gosforth & Coxlodge defeating Andy Handyside 16 – 9. And the last two former champions in action that was successful was Gosforth’s Simon Richardson, where Simon defeated Collingwood’s Steve Welsh 19 – 10, and Simon’s club colleague Michael Bennett recorded a close away win at Forth beating D Currell 16 – 13.
As you can see there were a number of walk-overs which is very disappointing – but probably with 3 of these where the opponents did not show, to make it worse there was no contact with the player concerned or myself, or the club secretary. I am sure we all have better things to do, and if you cannot make it – let me or your opposition, or the club secretary know.
I am still awaiting one result – and again this is poor – as no communication if game was off, delayed, or played.
Next week, the round of 32 is played – and no bank holiday next week!
