The Men’s 2 Wood Singles continued, and Monday night saw the holder crash out but one previous champion remains on course for a quadruple!

Monday night probably saw the focus mainly at Gosforth BC – which saw 4 ties played – holder New Delaval Knights Graham Sivell take on new member at Gosforth, in James Henderson. Henderson got off to a great start, winning 12 – 2 after 8 ends, this lead was a lead that Henderson did not give up and Henderson went on to win 17 – 6.

Across the green it saw a past runner up in Portland’s Gren Richardson beat home favourite Steve Miller 16 – 11. Past winner and treble winner, first won back in 2005, in Gosforth’s Brian Houghton recorded an impressive victory at Ashington, defeating George Richardson 15 – 14. This scoreline was favourable across 2 other games, and saw another Gosforth player in Daine Ross beat Morpeth’s R Lowe (15 – 14), and Benfield’s Matty Bishop defeat another past runner up in St. Georges Dragons Karl Jameson 15 – 14. Bishop’s club colleague Jonty King scored a great away win at Gosforth, beating James McKenna 17 – 6. King will have home advantage in the next round, where Jonty will take on another Gosforth player in Mark Dickinson, who required an extra end, for the second game running, this time beating Cramlington’s Dave Clough away 19 – 18. The final game to report was Gosforth’s Dan Targar beat St. Georges’ Dragon’s Gary Myerscough 15 – 8.

The quarter finals, which has 5 Gosforth, 2 Benfield and 1 Portland player(s) left –  will be played off on one day – venue and date tba.
