The Men’s 2 Bowl Singles started this evening, and saw the last 2 years champions go out.
Firstly the reigning champion Matty Bishop, now playing out of St. Georges Dragons lost on Saturday to Danny Currell at Forth 15 – 12. 2023 champion Graham Sivell of New Delaval Knights lost at Cowpen & Crofton to Simon Robinson.
One former champion Gosforth’s Simon Richardson (double – 2018 & 19) got his campaign underway, with Simon winning at Collingwood 16 – 10 against S McIntosh. Richardson’s club colleagues had a good evening, with 2022 runner up Paul Timney winning away at Newbiggin 17 – 12 against Barry Burgess, and Dan Bennett won at home against Whitley & Monkseaston’s Brian Younger.
There was a good night also at Walker Park – where home favourite Andy Johnson Junior recorded a comprehensive win over Westerhope’s Peter Gray, and Andy’s clubmate Rob McKinnon edged out Forth’s John Whitfield 15 – 14.
Other results tonight saw G Aynslsey (CC) win at Newbiggin against Mike Shepherd, Rockcliffe’s Dave Morton winning at home against Walker St. Peters Ian Sandwell, and Morton’s clubmate Kev Laidler scored a great away win at St. Georges Dragons, beating Connor Harvey. The last result to report was a comprehensive away win for Cramlington’s Dave Clough at Rockcliffe, where Dave beat Mitch Bravington this morning 16 – 4.
The other games had been played early or were walkovers.
