Final Match in the Northern Trophy League took place today against Cumbria at Wigton
This was a “do or die” game for Bowls Northumberland ladies you could feel the tension before the start of the game. Even days before, the tension was building, who would supply the Rocky Road (our own Mary Berry couldn’t)?? “ Why didn’t I get my stress ball” all problems that would be solved and were.
Team Manager Sheila gathered her “flock” around her and discharged them to their rinks knowing the importance of today.
Suffice to say we all found conditions trickey to say the least. Not a lot of green grass could be found therefore we experienced a lot of back woods on some ends and a lot of “blockers” on other ends. The word consistency wasn’t used very often on some rinks. However, it wasn’t easy for our opposition either. We all struggled.
I do not intend to go into detail rink by rink but Northumberland’s dogged determination that has been shown throughout this season gave us yet another win against Cumbria. 114 shots to 101 shots with 3 winning rinks, 1 rink drawing and 2 losing rinks giving us 7.5 points win to Cumbria’s 2.5 points.
Alas our neighbours Durham although playing a very tight game succumbed to the skills of the Yorkshire lasses who snaffled the League title from Northumberland by just 1 point.
There is always next year !!!!
