Starting any Match report as a Team Manager is quite daunting. You don’t know if this is the place to highlight short comings in a team for fear of upsetting someone or go overboard with platitudes and swell heads. I have no problem tonight, on the contrary neither of the fore mentioned is necessary because the TEAM ethic shone through on all six rinks today.
Yorkshire have always figured high up in the Northern Trophy League but today Northumberland Ladies showed a high degree of skill and determination which put us top of this League for the first time in decades.
From five ends being played we led 26 v 17 and never look like losing this lead. At ten ends we stood at 58 v 41. By this time we had 4 rinks forging ahead and two rinks keeping shot difference down. Now at this time in a game energy and thought process seems to historically drop but Northumberland recently found the answer. Rocky Road Traybake supplied by a player has enough calorific energy for a World Cup squad never mind 24 lady bowls players. It works. Fifteen ends saw us 88 v 61 up and energy levels taking us through to the final eighteen ends 105 v 79 a magnificent win by +26 shots.
4 rinks up, 1 rink losing by 1 shot and other by 7 shots which is again tactics been used wisely to keep shot difference to a minimum. Northumberland getting 8 points Yorkshire getting 2 points.
Two league games to go. Achieving top of the league status is good, greatness is hanging on to it. I have confidence
