Ladies Double Rinks Final

Back to news

Today our ladies county competitions concluded with the double rinks final.

The tie was held at our Ladies President’s home club, Alnwick, at 11 am this Sunday morning, where Gosforth looked to defend their title.

Gosforth got off to a great start with S Storey leading 7 – 1 against K Proctor, but her team mate N Povey was level at 6 all, 6 ends.

Unfortunately, Proctor and team struggled throughout the game – but managed to pick up 8 shots in the last 4 (or 5) ends to bring their total deficit to 6 shots.

At this point, Benfield’s club mates skipped by D Taylor were 2 shots up and lying a further 3 on the last end, meaning Taylor needed to draw 1 more for an extra end. But Povey had other plans and with her first bowl she was able to draw in for second shot – Taylor with 1 bowl left to play was reaching the head, but was unable to remove the bowl from the head.

Povey forfeited her last bowl to secure Gosforth’s 4 shot win overall (30 – 26)

May I also add congratulations to Gosforth’s mixed fours who defeated Durham’s J Pattinson 10 – 7 in the area final and will now go onto the national finals at Leamington.

Good luck Mattea Ross, Sheila Storey, Steven Harvey & Michael Bennett.
