Ladies 2 bowl Report

Back to news

Spectators were treated to a morning of great bowling today in our Women’s 2 Bowl Single Competition (2rounds) at Whitley and Monkseaton. The sun was shining but there was enough cloud cover to keep the temperature down to a manageable level!

In the first round, unfortunately Karen Harvey (SS) had to withdraw at the last minute, so that meant Ruth Carey (G) had a walkover into round 2. Ruth then made the decision to also withdraw, which meant that the winner of round 1 Susan MacDonald (HX) v Victoria Symons (WR) would go straight through to the semi final. This game was exciting to watch, with Victoria taking an early lead of 7-2 after end 6. Susan fought back strongly to 8-8 after 11 ends. Both ladies played well so that it was 9-9 on the 13th end, followed by 11-11 on the 16th end, and 13-13 after 19 ends. After 21 ends both competitors were level at 14-14, so an extra end was going to be the decider. Susan scored a 2 to win the game 16-14.

Round 1 – Ruby Robinson (WR) v Rachel Cartwright (BD) It was Ruby who took an early lead in this game with a score of 6-2 after 7 ends. She continued to put Rachel under pressure and increased her lead to 8-4 after 11 ends. Rachel pushed hard and managed to keep a 2 point difference after 16 ends with a score of 8-10. Ruby took the next two ends to increase her lead to 13-8 but Rachel answered by taking the following 2

ends and was just 2 down again 11-13 after 20 ends. Ruby secured her place in round 2 by scoring a 1 on the last end to win the game 14-11.

Round 1 – S.London (CW) v M.Allan (RC)

Our newcomer Marie took an early lead of 6-1 after 5 ends. Sandra then replied with 3x 2’s over the next 4 ends to bring the score to 7-7 after end 9. Sandra scored 1 on the next 3 ends, with Marie doing the same over the following 3 ends so they were 10-10 after 15 ends. Marie took the lead again on end 18 with the score reading 13-12. Sandra then held her concentration to take the last 3 ends with 2×2 and a 1 to win the game 17-13.

Round 1 – Naomi Scott (NDK) v Shelagh Carter (HX)

Another newcomer this year Naomi, applied the pressure from the very first end. Unfortunately for Shelagh she couldn’t find the right line today and so Naomi won this game convincingly 17-3.

Round 2 – Kayleigh Proctor v Sandra London

Unfortunately Sandra failed to find the form she had displayed in round 1. Whereas Kayleigh found the line very quickly today and she managed 7×2’s throughout the game to win convincingly 19-2 and secure her place in the semifinals.

Round 2 – Naomi Scott v J.Weir (FH)

Jess took the early lead in this game, leading 6-1 after 5 ends. Naomi then started to fight back scoring 2×1 over the next 2 ends. Jess got in her stride again and was leading 10-3 after 10 ends. Naomi replied by taking the following 4 ends so she was only 2 down at 8-10 on end 14. Things remained tight in this game with both ladies taking 3 ends each on the trot so that the score was 15-13 to Jess on end 20. Jess scored a further 1 on the last end to win the game 16-13 and secure her place in the semi final!

Round 2 – M. Ross (G) v R. Robinson

This game certainly kept the crowd entertained with both ladies playing some super shots. Mattea was leading 7-2 after 6 ends but then Ruby started her comeback, showing us that age is certainly no barrier, and levelled the game to 9-9 after 13 ends. The game swung one way then the other and after 17 ends they were level again at 12-12. Mattea kept on the pressure in the last few ends with a 1 and 2×2 to win the game 17-12 and her place in the semifinals!

So our semi finalists are:

S. MacDonald v M.Ross

K. Proctor v J.Weir

They will play sometime during the weekend of 15/16th July at Whitley and Monkseaton and we wish them all good luck.
