John’s Trophy

Back to news

One thing I can say, Yorkshire’s bus breaking down did Northumberland ladies no harm whatsoever because it gave the players TIME. Time to mix with each other time to bond playing card games (didn’t understand that one). This is something we don’t normally get these days as we all live busy lives. However the game got started 45 minutes later than scheduled. Given that the weather forecast was less than ideal we knew we were going to get wet. I say we, well I was well protected surrounded by umbrellas!!!

Again a slow start by Northumberland after 5 ends some 10 shots down and no sign of improvement by 10 ends although only 7 shots gained by the visitors. But, whether it was the rain or a light bulb moment suddenly momentum was gaining on 3 rinks for Northumberland skipped by Bev.Ware, Heather Smith and Christine Gardner with the other three rinks aware that shots needed to be saved. At 15 ends the 17 shots Yorkshire were previously ahead by had been cut back to 5. The last 6 ends becoming crucial as always in these long games. Northumberland ladies dug deep but the Yorkshire lasses dug deeper and gained the win.

Our first effort in this Competition for a long time was not in vain. This team has what it takes to win so we can build on today’s game and take on Cumbria in two weeks time hopefully in the sunshine. Well done ladies and Team Manager Margaret Turner.
