John’s Trophy

Report on Johns Trophy Saturday 12th July at Gosforth against Durham.

The Johns is the ladies equivalent to the Middleton Cup played for by the men’s section

Unfortunately and sadly by just 1 shot the men lost their final game in this to Durham. So we ladies had to avenge them. Our game on Saturday some would have said was a “dead rubber” a no need to play the game. But, in my mind all we had to do was get ALL points and Yorkshire do the same against Cumbria and this would have catapulted us up into second place. I had every confidence.

Well we nearly did do what we set out to do. Overall on the day Northumberland were the highest scoring County out of the four. We won on four rinks and achieved a shots win of 122 v 109 giving us 18 points to Durhams 4. This after the other result came in put us in third place. Our congratulations go to Yorkshire.

However, the delight and euphoria in our game on Saturday left me wondering if we felt like this at beating Durham and coming in at third place what on earth will we be like next season when we become top. Gosforth BC would be drunk dry !!!!

On that note I sincerely thank Gosforth for the use of their magnificent green and accommodating us due to time change of the match it was much appreciated.

Ladies this was our return to the Johns Trophy after many years, myself and the selectors applaud your efforts over what is, and has been a full on season.

Johns Trophy we will be back in 2026.
