Haltwhistle BC lifted the Jubilee Cup Final on Sunday 25th May @ Portland BC, with Rockcliffe Rollers taking the runners up berth.
As previous post the 4 clubs that had qualified were past winners Haltwhistle and Rockcliffe, along with Seaton Sluice and Hexham House.
The first round robin game saw Haltwhistle, skipped Malcolm Davidson record a great win over neighbours Hexham House 16 – 2. Across the green saw Seaton Sluice take on Rockcliffe, and the rollers scored a great narrow win 10 – 9, scoring a two on the last end to win, and also recover from a 7 – 3 deficit after 5 ends. (to note each game is 9 ends).
Next up was saw the winners of game 1 play each other with Rockcliffe playing Haltwhistle, and Haltwhistle continued their great form from game 1 and raced in to 8 nil after only 4 ends. Rockcliffe stemmed the tide, scoring on the next two ends, to trail 8 – 3, but that was the end of the scoring for the Rollers, as Haltwhistle scored on the last 3 ends to win decisively 12 – 3. On the other game Seaton Sluice recovered after losing the first 3 ends (3 – 0), to win 12 – 5.
Therefore, going in to the last game it was Haltwhistle that were firmly in the driving seat with 4 points +23, Seaton Sluice 2 points +6, Rockcliffe 2 -8, and Hexham House 0 point – 21. Seaton Sluice were Haltwhistle’s closest competitor after game 2, and they faced each and if Seaton Sluice could win by 9, it would mean they could overhaul Haltwhistle. And a negative result for Haltwhistle could also bring Rockcliffe in to equation, providing if Rockcliffe could record a big win over Hexham House.
The final and destination of the trophy was more or less done after the first few ends, as Haltwhistle led 5 – 0 after 3 ends. Seaton Sluice scored a single on end 4, but this was the last time they would score and Haltwhistle ran out winners 13 – 1. Rockcliffe Rollers beat Hexham House 13 – 3, which meant they finished as runners up.
The Jubilee Cup again proved to be a great competition, with the entry originally being full, and we had two more entries (on reserve list). I would like to thank our great hosts, as without these we simply could not run the event – thank you to Forest Hall, Cramlington and Portland for hosting the final. All of them were fantastic – and I am sure many enjoyed the doughnuts at Cramlington!!
Final Table:-
Haltwhistle 6 points +35, Rockcliffe Rollers 4 point +2, Seaton Sluice 2 points -6, Hexham House 0 points -31.
The team that represented Haltwhistle were Ray Snaith, William Dunn, Donald Hargraves, Michael Rogan, Malcolm Davidson. To note William Dunn played in earlier stage, and wasn’t available for the final where Donald Hargraves came in. Well done throughout- and to note winning all games including earlier stages.
Also a fantastic effort and result for Rockliffe Rollers taking the silver medal – Rockcliffe came through stage 1 and 2, and from a total of 36 entries in the whole cup competition.
