Quarter-Finalists Confirmed After Round 3 Thrillers

By Your Green-Side Insider

The path to the County Fours title is now clear. After a frantic third round that saw several heavyweights clash and some remarkable comeback stories, we are officially down to the final eight. Next week’s quarter-finals promise to be a highlight of the season as these quartets battle for a coveted semi-final spot.

The Quarter-Final Lineup: Round 3 Review

The final eight was decided through a series of gripping matches, ranging from dominant performances to high-stakes, extra-end battles:

Johnson’s Extra-End Heroics: In the most dramatic finish of the round, A. Johnson (BD) held his nerve against G. Robson (FH). With the scores locked after 18 ends, the match moved into an extra end where Johnson’s quartet managed to edge the encounter 21*–20 to keep their championship hopes alive.

Aitchison and Duffy Power Through: N. Aitchison (ST) continued his strong run by overcoming a very capable M. Bennett (G) side 21–18. Meanwhile, P. Duffy (G) put on a high-level display of drawing, navigating past N. Armstrong (G) with an impressive 23–10 scoreline.

Ross and Curtis Secure Passage: D. Ross (BD) kept his composure to defeat B. Davidson (WR) 22–13, while J. Curtis (G) edged a competitive encounter against G. Richardson (PD), finishing 16–13.

Wilson, Harvey, and Bojke Advance: M. Wilson (AM) moved into the quarter-finals after a comfortable 21–5 win against W. Ray (G). P. Harvey (G) maintained his momentum with a 17–12 victory over M. Hayden (ST), and A. Bojke (HS) secured his place in the final eight with a hard-fought 19–18 win against G. Adams (P).

Reflecting on the Exit Rinks

While the victors move on, we must acknowledge the quality of those who bowed out in this round. Players like G. Robson (FH)—who pushed Johnson to an extra end—along with G. Adams (P) and several others who were involved in razor-thin contests that could have easily gone the other way. The standard of fours play this season has been exceptional, and the margins for error have never been slimmer.

Stay tuned for next week’s Quarter Finals.
