Round 1 games:
K. Proctor (BD) 23 v J. Gledhill (NB) 12
- Benfield got off to a positive start leading 8-2 after 4 ends. Newbiggin took a 2 on the next end to cut their deficit to 4-8. But Benfield replied taking the next 5 ends to increase their lead to 17-5. After 15 ends Benfield were still out in front 18-10. They continued to push on hard and eventually won the game 23-12.
E. Timoney (M) 14 v M. Green (NB) 17
- Morpeth took an early lead and were 4-2 up after 5 ends. Newbiggin then took the following 4 ends with 2×1, 2 & 6 to take a lead of 12-4. Morpeth tried hard to stay in the game taking a 1,2,3 & 4 to cut their deficit to 14-16 after 16 ends. Newbiggin stayed strong taking the last 2 ends to win the game 17-14.
T. Napier (FH) 17 v A-M. Murray (FH) 19
- This game was a real battle between the Forest Hall ladies. Napier’s team (Skipped by Charlton) took an early lead of 7-3 after 5 ends. They took a 4 on the next end to lead 11-3. Murray’s team fought back taking a 2, 3 & 1 to cut their deficit to 9-11. By end 12 they were level on 13-13. After 14 ends they were level again on 14-14. Murray’s team took a 4 on end 16 to take the lead for the first time 18-15. Charlton’s team answered with a 2 on end 17 to cut their deficit to 17-18. Despite Charlton’s team holding the shot on the last end, it was Murray’s team that came in with the last bowl to take the shot winning the game 19-17!
V. Errington (BD) 4 v B. Ware (WM) 22
- W&M got off to a positive start leading 10-0 after 6 ends. Benfield took a 2 on the next end but W&M replied with a 3 on end 8 to lead 13-2. There were some very tight heads in this game but W&M pushed on hard and increased their lead in the last 4 ends with 2×3, 2 & 1 to take the game 22-4.
