Thursday evening brought the second round of the Men’s Edwardson Cup, and saw the holders for the last two years crash out.
Gosforth BC who had lifted the trophy for the last two years lost at Seghill BC, by 1 shot – with two of their rinks winning. Seghill will be at home next week, and they will take on Cramlington. Cramlington’s game tonight against Collingwood ended after only a few ends (around 7 / 8 ends I understand were played on each rink) due to a spectator having a really nasty fall, as a result this person had to be taken to hospital by one of the Collingwood players and with no reserves and of course concern for Alan from all players from both sides – the game had to be conceded unfortunately. The spectator involved was Collingwood’s Alan Hall – and I and all of us wish Alan a very speedy recovery
There was a good home win for Morpeth over Benfield 55 – 40. The other results saw away wins – Forth at North Shields West End, with two winning rinks from Wayne Penton and Danny Currell. Other wins were at Amble BC, where the previous two years runners up in Rothbury, won 51 – 41, with the rink skipped by Chris Cairns winning by 13. Rothbury will travel to Forth next week. Forest Hall won at Ponteland – winning 60 – 48, where all 3 rinks were undefeated, and Forest Hall will have home advantage next week and will take on Morpeth. The last result to report on is the game at Rockcliffe, where Portland won all on rinks – and won 52 – 42.
I am still awaiting one result tonight. Results are due in by 10pm!
The last result I received this morning – it was a good away win for the Dragons (St. Georges), they beat Percy. The Dragons will travel to Jesmond next week and take on Portland.
News on Alan Hall – Alan is now home; and is recovering – he has had stiches to his nose, and has a very sore hand as well. As before we wish Alan a speedy recovery and hopefully Alan will be on the green soon. Take care.
Well done to all concerned – and as above our best wishes go to Alan.
