Edwardson Cup Starts

Back to news

Thursday evening brought the commencement of the Edwardson Cup competition, with the holders starting their defence well, and overall it was a good away day (in the games that were played!).

Holders St. Georges faced a potential tricky away game at New Delaval Knights, where the home side were trying to put them to the sword and continue there fine season. However it was not meant to be and the holders St. Georges marched on, winning 47 to 36, mainly down to the rink skipped by Phil Harvey, where Phil continued his great form and won by 10 shots.

In the other games that were played it resulted in more away wins, there was a tight tussle at Amble, where Forest Hall won by 6 shots (48 – 42); there was a resounding away win at Heaton Victoria where the visitors Walker St. Peters triumphed 67 – 28.  Collingwood won at Alnwick 58 – 46, with a big thank you to the rink skipped by Allan Hall, who won by 14. Collingwood will now have home advantage next Thursday and will take on Forest Hall. Former winners Gosforth won at Rockcliffe, and they will now face Portland away next week, where Gosforth will try and reverse the result from the 2018 final.

The 3 other ties were unfortunately all walk-overs due to the away sides of Forth, Gosforth Empire and Garden Village unable to field teams.

Just  reminder on results – winning team to notify John Harthen by 10 pm on the evening of the game – and although it states home team to send result sheet in (electronically is best, whatsApp or Text or e-mail) – I’m not too bothered as long as I get it! – Thank You to all the clubs in sending your results in promptly tonight.

The next round will take place next Thursday – 29th July.
