The Women’s Semi Finals of the Double Rinks took place this afternoon at Gosforth West Avenue! We got off to a pretty wet start with the rain, but it soon cleared up and even though the clouds were very threatening it managed to stay dry.
Semi Final: Benfield v Alnwick
Rink 4: R.Henderson v A.Daley
Benfield got off to a convincing lead and on the 5th end they were leading 7-2. By the 9th end they had extended their lead to 15-5. Alnwick started to fight back but were still down 8-19 on the 15th end. Alnwick then played 2×3 &4 on the last 3 ends to bring the score back up. However they had left it too late, as Benfield secured their win 19-18.
Rink 5: V.Errington v V.Shepherd
Alnwick took an early lead of 4-1 after 4 ends. Then Benfield got in their stride taking the next 6 ends with 1, 2×2 , 3,&4 stretching their lead to 14-4. After 15 ends Benfield still had the lead of 18-8. Alnwick scored 3 on the 16th end but Benfield finished the game with 1&4 to win 23-11.

Semi Final: Forest Hall v Whitley & Monkseaton
Rink 2: T.Napier v A.Taws
Whitley & Monkseaton took a strong lead going 9-0 up after 3 ends. They then got stuck on 9 for the next 4 ends as Forest Hall got in their stride taking the score to 5-9. Whitley & Monkseaton scored 2&3 on the next 2 ends taking the score to 14-5. Both teams took 2×1 in succession leaving Whitley & Monkseaton in front 16-7 after 13 ends. There were many tight heads in this game but Whitley & Monkseaton kept the pressure on scoring 2×1, 2&4 on the last 4 ends to win the game 24-7.
Rink 3: T.Heron v B.Ware
Both teams scored a 3 on the first 2 ends. Then Forest Hall scored 1 on the 3rd and Whitley & Monkseaton answered with a 3& 1 to take the lead to 7-4 after 5 ends. W&M keep the pressure on and took 6 ends in succession extending their lead to 16-5 after 12 ends. Forest Hall replied with a 2&1 bringing their deficit to 8-16. W&M got to 17 then Forest Hall scored a 4 on end 16 bringing the score to 12-17. W&M held their nerve and scored 2×2 on the last 2 ends to win 21-12.
Final score: Forest Hall 19 v Whitley & Monkseaton 45

So Benfield meet Whitley & Monkseaton in the final (a repeat of last year!) on Sunday 6th August at Ponteland starting at 10am.
